on the Use of Hypnosis for Medical and Related Purposes
I want you to be a well-informed
consumer. Many scholarly journals have published hundreds of
peer-reviewed research and case studies on the efficacy of clinical
hypnosis and related techniques. Some of the journals are
American-based and others are well known international publications.
All of these journals are available at medical school libraries and
through legitimate on-line medical research sites.
In addition to these clinical
studies, many books have been published – by well known, legitimate
publishers – about the medicinal uses of hypnosis. These are easily
accessible through free public libraries, medical school libraries,
university libraries, book stores and on-line book sellers.
Below is a list of just some of

Consumer Articles
Note: These are written in non-scientific terminology
Every day, people ask me this
question: “If hypnosis is so effective, why don’t I read more
about it in the press?” Well, the medical use of hypnosis is the
subject of many newspaper and magazine stories in publications
throughout the US. To the surprise of most people, articles of the
subject have appeared in the following media outlets:
Time Magazine
The New York Times
The Wall Street Journal
Washington Post
Boston Globe
Los Angeles Times
... and many others
Thousands of newspapers and
magazines around the globe have covered this topic, as well. This
isn’t surprising, as the clinical use of hypnosis is more commonly
practiced in Canada, Europe, South America and Asia than in America.
The reason: the US healthcare system is a “medication first” model.
The rest of the world is more open to non-pharmaceutical treatments;
this means medication is used secondarily, not primarily.
NOTE: When reading
consumer articles about medical hypnosis, keep in mind many terms
are used interchangeably with hypnosis. These include: hypnotherapy,
clinical hypnosis, medical hypnosis, therapeutic hypnosis,
self-hypnosis, guided imagery and meditation.
